HOW MANY PEOPLE CAN PLAY SHUFFLEBOARD OR PING-PONG?
Shuffleboard is for groups of 2-8. If you’d like to book for more than 8 people, please get in touch and we can recommend what areas and tables your group will need.
Ping-pong can be played by two or 4 guests at a time divided into two teams.
DO I NEED TO BOOK SHUFFLEBOARD OR PING-PONG IN ADVANCE?
It is recommended that you book, especially during peak periods otherwise there may be a long wait to play.
WHAT TIME CAN WE BOOK SHUFFLE AND PING-PONG?
Our current trading times are Mon- Thurs 4-11pm / Fri & Sat 12 - 11pm / Sun - 12-9pm
WHAT IS YOUR CANCELLATION POLICY?
For any activity cancellations or amendments, we require 48 hours’ notice. All bookings made within 48 hours are non-refundable. For information on private event cancellation policy please contact your Events’ Manager. Partial or full deposit retention is at the General Manager’s discretion.
GROUP BOOKINGS
CAN WE BOOK A TABLE?
We take table bookings for groups of 10 and above. To secure your booking we require a £5pp pre-authorisation and the space will be yours for 3 hours to eat, drink and have a good laugh! Don’t worry, if you’re a smaller group we have plenty of space for walk-ins but during peak periods it is advised you arrive early!
DO YOU HAVE PARKING?
We don’t have onsite parking, however there is a car park on Queen Street which is less than a 5-minute walk, and we are close to the Oracle Shopping Centre which has 1600 spaces and is open 24hrs.
CAN WE BOOK FOR A LARGE PARTY?
Absolutely! We have a several private spaces that are perfect for any group size. Submit an enquiry on our website with some information on your requirements and we’ll get to you as soon as possible!
WHAT ARE YOUR FOOD AND DRINK OPTIONS?
We have a variety of pub classics ranging from burgers to salads, a pizza oven with freshly made pizzas and a taqueria kitchen on site!

We also have a perfectly formed selection of wines, spirits & cocktails or a refreshing array of soft & non-alcoholic options. Check out our delicious menus here.
I’M PLANNING A PARTY, ARE THERE OTHER FOOD OPTIONS?
Anything is possible at The Market House! Contact us for more information regarding alternative food options. We can supply sharing platters, taco platters, sharing pizzas, buffet and canape options, and special wedding set menus.  For whole venue hires we are also happy to discuss bespoke menu options.
CAN I BRING MY OWN DECORATIONS?
Absolutely however we do not allow confetti, or drawing pins. Any external decoration suppliers are advised to contact us in advance, especially if they are large items.
AVAILABLE SPACES
The Mezzanine
For groups of up to 80 people, we would recommend hire of the Mezzanine. This is a semi-private area that overlooks the main Market Hall making it a great space for people watching! It is an open area but fully contained for your group.  The Mezzanine can all be booked in two halves for smaller groups who want some exclusivity to their event space!
The Vault
For groups of up to 100 people, we recommend hire of the Vault. This private area and hidden gem in the venue was once the main bank vault, and it’s a fantastic space with a custom-made retractable glass roof for when the sun shines!  This space, when exclusively hired also includes our Ping Pong tables, or maybe you fancy some beer pong?  The Vault also boasts it’s own music input & TV’s so can be a great alternative for work get-togethers and company meetings.
The Rooftop
For groups of up to 120 people and those looking for something special we recommend the Rooftop Terrace & Bar.  This intimate space boasts your own bar with a beautiful and unique outside terrace area that gets the sun all year round! There is plenty of heated undercover seating so it’s a great space come rain or shine!
GENERAL ENQUIRIES
ARE KIDS ALLOWED?
Yes! Children are welcome, but no under 18's after 5pm, Monday to Sunday. For private events children are allowed until 9pm.
We reserve the right to refuse entry or ask guests to leave should it be in the best interest of the group and other customers.
CAN WE STAY OVER?
We do have a gorgeous 24-bedroom hotel on site, with some pet friendly rooms and a disabled access room. You can access the Hotel information  here
IS THE VENUE ACCESSIBLE?
All floor levels of the Market House are fully accessible using our available lift. There is an accessible toilet on the ground floor in our Market Hall, and also one in the rooftop bar. Please let us know if there are accessibility requirements in your party so we can assign your booking to an appropriate area.
DOG POLICY
We love dogs at The Market House!  As long as your dogs are well behaved, on a lead and people friendly then we welcome them with open arms.  Dog charges for hotel stays are set at £20 per booking.
TRANSPORT
Ideally placed within 5 minutes’ walk from the main Reading Railway Station, and with multiple bus stops right outside our venue, we are extremely accessible from near and far.
CORKAGE
If you are holding a private event with us, and would like to bring your own champagne, we charge a £25 per bottle corkage fee.
OWN FOOD ON THE PREMISES
No externally sourced food or beverages are permitted on the premises without prior agreement.  Where externally sourced, the venue will not be held liable for any food brought onto the premises by any customer or client.
